~A CHRISTMAS CAROL: PEELING BACK ITS LAYERS, UPON ITS ANNIVERSARY

This year marks the 175th anniversary of the publication of Charles Dickens', A Christmas Carol, and below you'll find links to articles and books about this classic novella.

In the article, "Reclaiming 'A Christmas Carol,'" Stephen Skelton examines how the Christian faith is woven into this work.

Skelton is the author of, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol: Special Church Edition.  Here is a video trailer for the book on youtube.

The faith-related aspects of the book are also examined in, "A Christmas Carol is Not a Secular Tale," an article via The Detroit News.

A book is referenced in this piece, which is entitled, The Life and Times of Ebenezer Scrooge.

The article, "The Darker Side of 'A Christmas Carol,'" was published by Christianity Today upon the release of the 2009 Disney adaptation of the book.

Here is CT's review of the film.

*The illustrations which I've included at the beginning of this post and above are by an English book illustrator named Arthur Rackham (1867-1939); these are two from a series of twelve that he created for a 1915 edition of A Christmas Carol; they were used as color plates in the books.

~FLOWERS IN WINTER

My sister keeps a jar full of paper slips with fun activites written on them; every so often, she lets her 3 1/2-year-old draw one, and they complete that activity.

This past month, the cue the paper proffered was to do a good deed, so my sister bought some flowers from Trader Joe's, and she let her son hand them out to random people they saw.

I'm sure that act of kindness was much appreciated by the recipients of it--in fact, one of the girls who was gifted began to cry and said that she had really needed a little pick-me-up.

It just so happens that I was one of the people who received some pretty blooms, and I had to snap a few pics of them, of course!

What a sweet gesture this was, and I appreciated it so much ☺.

I was able to arrange my flowers in this ceramic pitcher, as I no longer needed it to water the Christmas tree.

Yes, Christmas trees to lovely bouquets--I'll take it.
